Omaha, Neb. -- Omaha Public Schools Board of Education Member Tony Vargas announced that he will run for legislature in district 7, the seat vacated earlier this year by Jeremy Nordquist. Vargas has represented subdistrict 9 on the OPS Board of Education for two years, since his appointment by the board in late September 2013.
“It has been a true honor to serve students, parents, and educators as an Omaha Public Schools Board Member. I look forward to continuing to be an advocate for families, workers, and small business owners in my community of downtown and South Omaha,” said Vargas.
Vargas is a bilingual Peruvian-American, first generation college student, and former public school teacher. He now works as an education policy consultant, striving to improve the quality of education for thousands of children across the country.
